SpaceOna

SpaceOna puts vibration sensors on campus laundry machines and tells students, per building, exactly which washers and dryers are free right now. I owned the interface for eighteen months.

01The design problem

The product is telemetry, but nobody wants telemetry. A student standing in a stairwell with a laundry basket wants one bit of information: is there a free machine. Everything else (peak usage curves, downtime, historical trends) matters to the building operator, not to them.

So the interface resolves to a single glanceable board per building: every machine, its state, and nothing else competing for attention. The analytics live behind that, for the people who need them.

02How I built it

Responsive, brand-aligned interfaces in React and Tailwind, built component-first so the same status primitives compose into the board, the building picker and the admin views without diverging.

I worked directly with the product team on user feedback and iterated the UI against it rather than shipping once and moving on.
